One day I woke up and decided I wanted to be a professional speaker when I grew up. I was 50 years old. My reasons were all about shameless self-aggrandizement. As a youth I'd been a stage wanna-be. At last I saw a way to step into the spotlight, hold the microphone and have people admire me.

My youngest children were juniors in high school so I gave myself 18 months to figure out something to talk about that people would listen to and, more importantly, pay money to hear.

I imagined that we would install our twin daughters in college and then I would catch a plane to begin my new starring role on the platform of people's hearts.

This book is about the lessons I've slowly and sometimes painfully learned over nearly twenty years of professional speaking. I'm writing it with the hope that I can shorten your learning curve towards mastering the art of crafting your message.
